The first War Aircraft Replicas aircraft, a Fw-190 flew in 1976.  It was an immediate hit.  They quickly followed with a F4U Corsair.  The construction of W.A.R. aircraft is based on a simple wood box.  The shape and identity of the aircraft is provided by foam shaping and a fiberglass skin.  This construction technique is well within the skill levels of the home builder and provides a strong  +/- 6g airframe.

WARbuddies new mission... Continue to provide helpful advice, pictures and motivational  materials.

WARbuddies was created by Bill Stevens in a time when there was no WAR website or builders discussion group. Interest was dwindling in WAR replicas because WAR plans were not being sold. (Company was in limbo) There were people building from existing plans but they were pretty much loners.  Bill loved WAR's F4U and was compelled to revive interest and create a network of builders... He accomplished this and then some! Sadly, Bill passed away in 2002 but I was fortunate to inherit his website and exhaustive collection of WAR material. Bill was semi-retired and had lots of time to work on this website... A luxury which I don't have. (Not if I want to finish my plane)

As of Jan 2007 I took down the main link to my e-mail address. Somewhere, buried in the site the link exists should someone really want to contact me. WAR now has an official webpage and should be reachable. The decision to remove the e-mail link and spend less time on the website was not made easily. Way too much time was being spent answering questions which the this website already answers. People would also send credit card numbers and expect me to deliver plans to them! :) Ah, if only they could read. I really did/do enjoy conversing with true enthusiasts though and welcome it.

Webmaster's WAR F4U project
Prompted by Bill I created a website for my project which involves building a WAR F4U and scratchbuilding a radial engine.  This site was merged to WARbuddies when I took over. People often ask how far along I am on the project. My answer is that if I had six months of free time and money to burn I'd be flying. In a more roundabout way this equates to another three years! Such is life!
