CRANKCASE MACHINING pg 3
Now for the fun part! The final milling of the case flats took another three or four hours. I used a six inch wide face mill to save a little time. Due to the size of the face mill and the importance of not screwing up, only very light cuts were made. Technically a RF-30 mill is only supposed to swing a three inch face mill. Due to factory imperfections in the mill the head is canted just a hair. The end result is that one half of the face mill does the cutting. This canting of the head results in a .0005 bow (dip) over the face mill's six inch span. Not too shabby and within tolerances for what is being done.

Taking multiple measurements while moving the depth mike side to side allowed me to find the mandrel's high spot.
