A fine photo of a W.A.R. F4-U Corsair from an old magazine article.

That "Big Blue Hog" was one of the meanest looking birds to fly the Pacific Theatre.

This W.A.R. Corsair appeared in the November 2000 issue of Custom Planes magazine.  This is the second article on W.A.R. aircraft in 3 months.  They also have great how-to articles.  It is well worth getting a subscription, I did.

Now, tell me that is not one great lookin' bird!
Another great lookin' W.A.R. F4-U Corsair.  Owner - unknown
W.A.R. F4-U Corsair, built 1985 by Kevin Janiak.  Mr. Janiak donated the aircraft to the Kalamazoo, Mich.  Air Museum.  Officials at the Air Museum stated the aircraft originally had a Continental O-200 powerplant. They also stated the aircraft was "overbuilt", having excessive fiberglas, extra metal panels, etc.   The Museum officals were advised by Mr. Janiak that the aircraft could barely fly and had sustained a ground loop.  Mr. Janiak donated the aircraft with the restriction that it would never be flown.

Builders: Be aware of the dangers of excessive fiberglas  and adding items that would cause the aircraft to be overly heavy.
An early W.A.R. F4-U Corsair at Santa Paula, CA
Originally built in 1981 by George Cauthon.  Mark Barry bought it, rejuvinated and repainted it.   You can find Barry's photo's at his site from my "Links" page.  It was sold and shipped to Germany where it flys today.
An early photo of Corsair #95.  Wouldn't we all like all like to trade places? >grin<

This photo appeared in the Jan/Feb 1982 issue of the original WAR newsletter.  The full-size F4-U Corsair  was owned by Tom Friedken and flown by Bill Yoak.  The "little brother" in the foreground was WAR F4U s/n 80 piloted by owner/builder Cliff Wierick of Oceanside, CA.  Both birds were based at Palomar.
This photo first appeared in the Sept/Oct. 1977 issue of the original WAR newsletter.   WWII Marine Corps Ace Pappy Boyington autographed this photo of a WAR Corsair.
